Chinese tenor Yuntong Han is an emerging operatic artist and recitalist whose work has been recognized by leading opera institutions in the United States. He is a member of the Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artist Program at Los Angeles Opera, where he has appeared in major company productions including Tybalt in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette, Amon in Philip Glass’s Akhnaten, and Bardolfo in Verdi’s Falstaff. He also covered the leading tenor role of Pinkerton in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly and performed featured excerpts in James Conlon’s Farewell Concert with LA Opera.

In 2023, Han was named a National Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera Eric and Dominique Laffont Competition, where he received the Judith Raskin Award. That same year, he joined Opera Theatre of Saint Louis as a Gerdine Young Artist, performing Elder Hayes in Susannah, covering Cavaradossi in Tosca, and appearing in the company’s Center Stage Concert with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. He was also selected as a Vocal Fellow at Ravinia’s Steans Music Institute and later performed as tenor soloist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at the Ravinia Festival.

Han’s recent engagements also include San Francisco Opera, where he covered the featured role of the Jade Emperor in the world premiere of Huang Ruo and David Henry Hwang’s The Monkey King. His artistry has been praised for its lyricism, linguistic facility, musical intelligence, and dramatic versatility.

A native of Shenyang, China, Han received his Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from New England Conservatory and his Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. His principal teachers and mentors have included MaryAnn McCormick, Heidi Grant Murphy, Kevin Murphy, Stephen King, and Susan Graham. His repertoire spans opera, concert, and art song, with a growing commitment to bringing Chinese-language vocal music to broader audiences.
