Soprano Brenna Markey is swiftly establishing herself as a captivating presence on the opera and concert stage. Praised as a “silky-voiced soprano” (Jersey City Times) with a “melodious and emotionally compelling voice” (TapInto Princeton) and “expressive range” (Herald-Tribune), she brings both vocal brilliance and dramatic artistry. This season, she made her unexpected debut as Cio-Cio San in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly at the Princeton Festival. Brenna’s sung interpretation as a jump-in has been lauded as “compelling and sensitive” (TapInto Princeton), “expressive and vocally smooth” (Town Topics Princeton), and a “superb performance” (Tapinto Princeton). Earlier this season, Brenna had performed with the New Jersey Symphony in her role debut as Pamina in Mozart’s The Magic Flute. Her notable debuts include Sarasota Opera in 2022 as Elisetta in Il Matrimonio Segreto, guest artist for Opera Philadelphia’s Madama Butterfly lecture series, excerpts from Turandot at Carnegie’s Weill Hall in 2024, soprano soloist in the Verdi Requiem with Opera Southwest ,and Lucia in Lucia di Lammermoor with Opera Magnifico in 2025. A distinguished competitor, she is a First Place Winner in the Century Opera and Medici International Competitions and a Semifinalist in the Elizabeth Connell International Competition.
