I received my Master of Music degree from the University of Michigan in 2023, and completed a Specialist of Music (equivalent of an Artist Diploma) degree in 2025. While at the University of Michigan, I had the opportunity to coach and perform several large roles including Elizabeth Cree, Zerlina, and Lišák/Fox Gold-Stripe, where I became more comfortable preparing roles and being on stage. School productions take place over a period of a few months, which is much longer than a professional production, so I was eager to gain some more professional experience to push myself to the next level. During my SM degree, I spent a month at Kentucky Opera as Studio Artist, which was my first experience working in a professional level production. After I finished at UMich, I spent this past season at Toledo Opera as a Resident artist, where I sang in their two MainStage productions and toured a children’s opera all around Ohio and SE Michigan to about 25,000 students. I learned so much from our two productions, made some wonderful connections, and feel much more confident about my ability to show up prepared and adapt quickly in a short production period. It was also amazing to introduce opera to kids— it was something I was nervous about, but I enjoyed it so much more than I expected. Performing in front of different kinds of audiences and learning how to change my approach to performing depending on the audience is a skill I want to continue to develop in the future. This summer, I’ll be at the Tanglewood Music Center as a Vocal Fellow and in the fall I’ll be a Studio Artist at Florentine Opera. My goals and focuses this season are to continue growing as an artist, and to gain confidence and experience on my journey to become a professional freelance performer. At Florentine, I’ll be able to coach twice a week, take voice lessons with various visiting teachers, participate in their three productions, and sing in various community/school outreach programs. I think it’s the perfect next step as I continue to grow into myself as a professional artist. As an emerging artist, I know I still have room to grow and will continue applying to young artist programs this season that I believe will help me continue on my journey. Being based in Milwaukee this season rather than near the Detroit area will be a heavier financial strain for me, as flights are more expensive. Since Cincinnati is quite far away from Milwaukee, flying to New York will likely be the better option for me this audition season for several companies, since not every company tours in Chicago. I would be so grateful for the support of Audition Air as I face these growing expenses for the upcoming audition season.
